Benefits of Yoga Recovery for Athletes

Strength + Stability

There is a difference between having strength and using your strength effectively. Yoga helps applying strength to maximize skills. Our program is designed to train the athletic body to properly stabilize muscles specific for each sport. Strength comes in the capacity of utilizing multiple muscle groups rather than isolating the muscles.

Balance

Through balance poses, an increase of strength is activated on each side. This reduces muscle compensation and improves the quality of weaker symmetrical muscle groups. A dynamic, muscle movement is activated in balance poses, especially towards the less utilized, smaller muscles. Moreover, the core and trunk muscles are activated.

Core + Trunk

Core strength is classified as flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral flexion. Having a strong core aids in avoiding injuries and back pain. Core mobility gains power and control to the entire body. A greater rotation can be achieved though the strengthening of the oblique muscles within the lateral sides of the abdominal.

Flexibility

Increased flexibility and ease of movement of the body, therefore increasing range of motion. Active static stretching results in reciprocal inhibition, a process where the central nervous system signals the target muscles to relax. Our program specializes in safely lengthening and elongating tight muscles which promotes softening of muscle fascia.

Endurance + Breath

Endurance is all about pushing the body to its edge and going a bit further. Our yoga practices encourage individuals to focus on increasing lung capacity and, eventually, have a more even breath. This stimulates individuals to find peace in stressful situations, to clear the mind, and to nurture memory.

Fluidity

In order to help tight, stiff muscles, players need to have movement post strenuous playing as it promotes blood flow that reduces soreness. Through proper body alignment and muscle fluidity, players can effectively access a full range of motion in a safe manner. It is important to include both active and passive stretching to avoid staining and soften surrounding connective tissues.

Visualization

Our program encompasses a visual meditation component for players to improve focus, increase brain activity, improve reaction time, reduce overthinking, and improve sleep quality. Collectively, visualization benefits athletic progress and helps individuals develop a positive mindset to carry throughout games, practices, and life.

Recovery

Muscles are stressed during strenuous, physical activity. Through consistent recovery, the blood flow pumps to reduce soreness within the muscles and brings forth muscle-tissue repair. Athletes that tune into their bodies develop a greater mind connection and give themselves the care their bodies want and need.
